Complete Testing Solution for Film Impact Resistance
Two Professional Impact Testers from GBPI for Flexible Packaging Quality Control
Overview
Impact resistance stands as a critical mechanical indicator for plastic films, composite membranes and metal foils, reflecting the toughness and protective capacity of flexible packaging. During transportation, storage and handling, packages frequently suffer drops and collisions. If film toughness fails to meet standards, cracks and leakage will emerge, bringing huge product loss and brand reputation risks. To solve this problem, Guangzhou Biaoji Packaging Equipment (GBPI) independently developed two professional testing instruments: GBD-L2 Falling Dart Impact Tester and GBG-L2 Pendulum Impact Tester. Covering two mainstream impact test methods and complying with global international standards, the two devices are widely adopted in factories, third-party labs, universities and research institutes, providing accurate data support for packaging material optimization.
1 GBD-L2 Falling Dart Impact Tester
The GBD-L2 falling dart impact tester is specially designed for thin materials under 1mm, including plastic films, sheets and steel coatings. It simulates real drop scenarios by adjusting dart weights step by step, calculating critical mass when the sample breaks to evaluate anti-drop performance. Three testing modes (Method A, Method B, Single Specimen Mode) are integrated into one machine. Method A covers 50~2000g, Method B covers 300~2000g and single test ranges from 20g to 2000g. It fully meets international standards including ISO7765-1, GB/T 9639 and ASTM D1709.
Equipped with precision sensor up to ±0.5% accuracy and 0.1g resolution, the instrument uses electromagnetic dart release and pneumatic sample clamping to eliminate human error. A color touchscreen controls all procedures automatically without manual calculation or drawing. Built-in thermal printer supports instant report output, and the system stores up to 40 groups of historical data for later review. The all-in-one design lowers procurement cost while maintaining comprehensive testing capacity.

2 GBG-L2 Pendulum Impact Tester
Complementary to the falling dart model, the GBG-L2 pendulum impact tester focuses on instantaneous pendulum shock resistance of plastic films, composite materials and metal foils, manufactured in compliance with GB/T 8809 and ASTM D3420. A hemispherical striker breaks the sample at fixed velocity; the consumed impact energy is recorded to quantify material toughness, covering testing scenarios that falling dart equipment cannot simulate.
Adopting electronic energy detection with ultra-high 0.001J resolution, the tester supports 1J, 2J, 3J, 5J standard energy levels with optional 8J range. Standard 90° pendulum lifting angle and 285mm swing radius match global test specifications. Pneumatic clamping, automatic pendulum release and horizontal calibration system minimize manual interference. Users can edit customized test reports, print records and check all measured data directly on the color touchscreen with one-click automatic testing workflow.
Advantages of Dual Testing System
Combined GBD-L2 and GBG-L2 form a complete testing system covering two core impact indicators: drop resistance and instantaneous pendulum toughness. With unified intelligent operation, high precision and full standard compatibility, the two testers help manufacturers screen defective films, optimize formula and stabilize production quality. They are essential lab instruments for flexible packaging, plastic processing, new material research and official quality supervision institutions worldwide.
